Lando Norris captured the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, nursing a one-stop tyre strategy to keep McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri 0.6 seconds behind at the flag. The result delivered the British team its seventh one-two in 14 races and marked McLaren’s 200th win in Formula 1. Norris’s fifth victory of the season trims Piastri’s championship advantage to nine points going into the three-week summer break, reigniting the title fight with 10 rounds remaining. Mercedes’ George Russell finished a distant third, 20 seconds adrift, after passing Charles Leclerc late in the race. Leclerc, who had started from pole for Ferrari, slipped to fourth under a two-stop plan and incurred a five-second penalty for erratic defending. Fernando Alonso secured fifth for Aston Martin, his strongest finish of the year. Qualifying on Saturday produced its own upset when Leclerc edged Piastri and Norris to claim his first pole in almost a year by 0.083 seconds. Alonso had briefly topped Q2 and lined up fifth, laying the foundation for Aston Martin’s improved showing on race day.
