RWNYC has committed to investing in the construction of up to 50,000 units of workforce housing across New York City's five boroughs. This initiative emphasizes the use of union labor and aims to provide quality housing financed, built, and intended for laborers and working-class residents. The commitment is part of a broader effort to address the city's housing affordability crisis. Concurrently, the New York City government is advancing several affordable housing projects, including a $600 million, 1,000-unit development in Harlem approved by the city council, and a $270 million affordable housing project in East New York financed by Goldman Sachs. The East New York project, known as the "Innovative Urban Village," will be developed on a 10-acre faith-based megachurch campus and is expected to deliver 2,000 affordable homes, with the first 385 units currently under construction. These projects also incorporate community spaces and services aimed at supporting working families and residents in need. Public-private partnerships continue to play a key role in expanding affordable and stable housing options throughout the city.
Like I always say: home is where the shovels are! The “Innovative Urban Village" will bring 2,000 affordable homes to Brooklyn, and today we broke ground on the first 385 units. But like any good village, this 10-acre, faith-based development will construct more than just https://t.co/Z1AiKejjC2
