Kenyan President William Ruto launched the Affordable Housing Internship Programme at State House Nairobi, aiming to expand job creation and inclusive growth within the country's housing sector. The initiative will provide internship opportunities to 4,000 graduates, focusing on recruiting professionals such as quantity surveyors, urban planners, and AI specialists to support the Affordable Housing Programme. The government plans to increase the number of people working on affordable housing projects from 320,000 to 600,000 and double the number of consulting groups involved. President Ruto also defended Kenya's economic performance, highlighting a reduction in inflation, a strong Kenyan shilling, growing foreign exchange reserves, and an International Monetary Fund ranking that places Kenya sixth in Africa. He emphasized that the administration has made tough decisions to stabilize the economy and urged citizens to reject negativity. Additionally, under his leadership, prices for cooking gas and maize flour have decreased, and over 300,000 jobs have been created through ongoing affordable housing projects.
