Apple is working on a new family of AI-driven hardware that would move the company further into the smart-home market and lay the groundwork for a post-iPhone product cycle. People familiar with the plans say the roadmap includes a smart speaker with a built-in display slated for 2026, battery-powered security cameras, and a more ambitious tabletop robot assistant designed to bring a visually animated, conversational version of Siri into the household. The tabletop device—internally called J595 and nicknamed the “Pixar Lamp”—features a motorized arm and a seven-inch screen that can swivel to keep the user in view during video calls or spoken interactions. Apple is targeting 2027 for its debut and intends to run all of the new products on a voice-first operating system dubbed “Charismatic,” capable of recognizing faces and delivering personalized content. Executives have also floated longer-term ideas ranging from wheeled home robots to full humanoid models, underscoring Apple’s effort to regain ground in artificial intelligence hardware against rivals such as Amazon and Google.
