Drone maker DJI is expanding into home robotics with the unveiling of Romo, its first robot vacuum cleaner. The company posted an official image and teaser video on Weibo on 24 July, confirming that the product will be formally launched on 6 August. Romo is designed with DJI’s drone-derived 3D navigation and LiDAR-based obstacle detection. The device integrates dual side brushes, a mopping system, and automatic dust disposal. Two charging-and-maintenance docks will be offered—a minimalist white model and a partially transparent version that showcases the self-cleaning and water-management mechanisms inside. DJI says the vacuum has been in development for four years under its advanced hardware division. By entering the fast-growing smart-home market, the Shenzhen-based company will compete with established players such as iRobot and Roborock while diversifying its portfolio amid increased U.S. scrutiny of its drone business. Pricing and international availability have not yet been disclosed.
