Elon Musk said his artificial-intelligence start-up xAI will release the next version of its large language model, Grok 4, shortly after the US Independence Day holiday. The company is scrapping the previously announced Grok 3.5, a move Musk described as reflecting a bigger-than-expected performance leap. According to Musk, Grok 4 will feature advanced reasoning and a specialized coding capability. He added that the system will first be used to "rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge," removing errors and filling information gaps before being retrained on the cleaner data set. Musk argued that existing foundation models contain “far too much garbage” because they rely on uncorrected public data. The announcement intensifies the rivalry with OpenAI, which is preparing its own GPT-5 model, and comes as policymakers worldwide debate how to govern rapidly evolving generative-AI products. Musk also confirmed that Tesla’s Optimus V3 humanoid robot already uses Grok as its voice assistant, signalling broader integration of the model across his companies and hinting at future hardware applications once Grok 4 is deployed.
