Nvidia on Monday began selling its Jetson AGX Thor developer kit, a compact computer it bills as a “robot brain,” for $3,499. Powered by the company’s new Blackwell GPU, the system delivers up to 2,070 FP4 teraflops of AI performance and comes with 128 GB of memory while drawing as little as 130 watts. Nvidia says the module offers 7.5 times the AI compute and 3.5 times the energy efficiency of its previous-generation Jetson Orin chips. First developer kits ship next month, and production-grade Jetson T5000 modules will follow, priced at $2,999 apiece for orders of 1,000 units or more; a lower-power T4000 variant is also planned for late 2025. Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang has identified robotics as Nvidia’s largest growth opportunity outside conventional AI data-center chips. The new Jetson line is designed to run large language, vision and multimodal models at the edge, enabling humanoid robots and other machines used in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare and agriculture to process sensor data and make decisions in real time without relying heavily on cloud connections. Nvidia simultaneously opened pre-orders for a Blackwell-based DRIVE AGX Thor developer kit aimed at autonomous-vehicle developers, with deliveries scheduled for September. Companies including Agility Robotics, Amazon, Meta and Boston Dynamics are already integrating Jetson hardware, and the company says more than 2 million developers now use its robotics software stack. Although robotics accounted for only about 1% of Nvidia’s revenue last year, sales in the combined automotive-and-robotics segment grew 72% year over year, underscoring the chipmaker’s push to broaden its customer base beyond data centers.
