Romanian President Nicușor Dan has been actively engaged in political consultations and judicial appointments since June 2025. Initially, he convened parliamentary party leaders for formal consultations regarding the designation of a new prime minister. Scheduled discussions took place on June 19, with the nomination of the prime minister postponed to the following morning, as negotiations among the four pro-European parties continued. In July, Nicușor Dan appointed Dacian Cosmin Dragoș, a prominent legal scholar known for his expertise in administrative law and his role as a legal expert in Romania's successful 2024 Roșia Montană arbitration case, as a judge to the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR). Shortly after, Simina Tănăsescu was elected as the first female president of the CCR for a three-year term; she had been appointed to the court in 2019 by former President Klaus Iohannis. In mid-July, the CCR unanimously rejected a constitutional challenge filed by President Dan against the law on combating antisemitism and xenophobia, ruling the legislation to be clear, precise, and predictable. This decision marked a notable setback for the president's legal initiatives. The ruling was publicly commented on by Adrian Cioflâncă, director of the Center for the Study of the History of Jews in Romania.
