Freshly leaked photographs of what are said to be production batteries for Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17 Air show a cell just 2.49 millimetres thick—about half the depth of the battery tipped for the flagship iPhone 17 Pro. The images, circulated by repeat leaker Majin Bu and reported by MacRumors, AppleInsider and other specialist outlets, appear more plausible than an earlier set that was withdrawn, analysts said. At roughly 2.9 Ah, the ultra-slim battery would help Apple deliver the rumoured 5.5-millimetre chassis of the 17 Air, but it also points to a markedly smaller capacity than rivals: Samsung’s equally thin Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to carry a 3,900 mAh pack. Apple’s aggressive optimisation could mitigate the gap, though endurance is likely to draw scrutiny if the specification is confirmed. Separate leaks indicate that the thicker L-shaped batteries destined for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will be clad in steel shields to improve thermal management. Apple has not commented on the authenticity of the parts. The company is widely expected to unveil the four-model iPhone 17 line in early September, with sources pointing to either 8 or 10 September for the keynote.
