Russian mixed-martial-arts fighter Timur Khizriev was shot late Tuesday outside his apartment building in Makhachkala, Dagestan, in what local media describe as an ambush by two masked men. Security-camera footage shows the 29-year-old Professional Fighters League featherweight champion unloading his car when the attackers opened fire with traumatic pistols at close range. Khizriev sustained at least five wounds to the shoulder, chest and hand and underwent surgery overnight, state news agency RIA Novosti reported. Hospital sources quoted by TASS said the injuries were non-penetrating and his life is not in danger. Witness accounts and police statements indicate the assailants fled in a white Lada Priora driven by a third accomplice. Investigators have opened a criminal case and are examining motives, including a possible personal dispute, but have made no arrests. Khizriev captured the 2024 PFL featherweight title last November, earning a USD 1 million purse and extending his unbeaten professional record to 18-0. He trains in Dagestan under coaches affiliated with former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
