In a recent meeting of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, President Vladimir Putin highlighted the growing threat of cybercrime, reporting that damages from such crimes exceeded 200 billion rubles (approximately $2.2 billion) in 2024. He noted that the number of cybercrimes has increased while the rate of solving these crimes has decreased to 23%. Many victims of cybercrime were elderly individuals, prompting Putin to call for more decisive action against these offenses. He emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue, stating that the situation has reached unacceptable levels and instructed the Ministry to expedite the adoption of regulatory measures to combat fraud. Additionally, Putin addressed other security concerns, including illegal migration and corruption, which he stated hinder economic development and negatively impact the business environment. He urged the Ministry to maintain a strong focus on fighting corruption. Furthermore, the Interior Minister, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, reported a 10% decrease in murders and noted a shortage of 172,000 police officers, exacerbated by personnel leaving for military service in Ukraine. The meeting underscored the need for the Ministry to enhance economic security and protect businesses from criminal schemes.
