Russian President Vladimir Putin told participants in a BRICS gathering on 6 July that the group’s five member states, despite spanning different religions, cultures and development models, share a commitment to mutual respect, equality and good-neighbourliness. Speaking by teleconference, he said the bloc’s unifying agenda is increasingly in demand amid global tensions and emphasised what he called the importance of traditional values, high ideals of friendship and harmony.
