Russia Ends Moratorium on Intermediate-Range Missiles, Cites U.S. Threats, Reveals Advanced Weapons Beyond Oreshnik
Russia has officially ended its moratorium on the deployment of ground-launched missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers, a move justified by the Russian Foreign Ministry as a response to the deployment of similar U.S. missile systems in Europe and the Indo-Pacific regions. The Kremlin has stated that Russia no longer has any constraints regarding intermediate- and shorter-range missile deployments and reserves the right to take any necessary measures in this area. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov emphasized that American missile systems increasingly threaten Russia's security and that Russia had no alternative but to act. Ryabkov also revealed that Russia possesses other advanced weapons beyond the known Oreshnik missile system but declined to provide further details. The Kremlin has called on the United States to cease its pressures and warned of a persistent nuclear tension resulting from these developments.
