The Golden State Valkyries introduced Violet the Raven as the franchise’s first mascot during halftime of Monday night’s home game at San Francisco’s Chase Center, capping a week-long publicity campaign built around a mysterious purple-and-gold egg that appeared in the arena’s plaza. Violet “hatched” from the oversized egg before a sold-out crowd and joined dancers on the court, continuing the club’s Norse-mythology branding. Team officials said the raven, nicknamed “Vi,” is intended to embody knowledge and good fortune for “Ballhalla,” the nickname fans have given the arena on game days. The unveiling coincided with the Valkyries’ 74-57 victory over the Connecticut Sun, keeping the WNBA’s newest expansion team undefeated at home. The organization, which has sold out every game in its inaugural season, said Violet will appear at community events and home fixtures throughout the year.
