Autonomous-vehicle developer WeRide has obtained Saudi Arabia’s first permit to deploy self-driving robotaxis, granted by the kingdom’s Transport General Authority. The license makes WeRide the only technology company with autonomous-driving approvals in six countries, adding Saudi Arabia to existing operations in China, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and France. WeRide has already begun a pilot service in Riyadh in partnership with Uber, offering rides between key locations in the capital. The company said it aims to transition to full commercial operations across the city by the end of 2025. The announcement boosted investor sentiment, sending WeRide’s shares up roughly 6% in morning trading.
