Seattle firefighters responded to a large fire on a 40-foot boat moored near the 2100 block of Westlake Avenue North on Lake Union on the afternoon of June 25, 2025. The fire, which was classified as a two-alarm incident, sent smoke high into the sky and nearly caused extensive damage to the marina. Witnesses reported a loud explosion during the fire, which crews eventually extinguished after a joint effort involving the Seattle Fire Department and the Seattle Police Department Harbor Unit. Body camera footage of the incident was later released. Separately, on July 5, 2025, emergency crews responded to an overturned boat incident in the Potomac River near the Washington Monument. Five adult males were rescued, with one individual transported to the hospital with non-serious injuries.
