Botafogo has reached a definitive agreement to sell midfielder Gregore to Qatar’s Al-Rayyan SC, ending several days of negotiations over payment terms. O Globo reports that Al-Rayyan accepted club owner John Textor’s demand for an upfront settlement of the roughly R$39 million (about US$7 million) release clause, though the parties have not formally disclosed the amount. The 31-year-old Brazilian will make a final appearance for Botafogo on Wednesday, 16 July, when the Rio club hosts Vitória in the 14th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro at Nilton Santos Stadium. Gregore is expected to start on the bench, with the club planning an on-field tribute. Signed in February 2024, the defensive midfielder played 83 matches for Botafogo, scoring three goals and providing two assists. His most notable contribution was the late strike that sealed the club’s 2024 league championship. At Al-Rayyan, coached by Portuguese manager Artur Jorge, Gregore will link up with a side seeking to strengthen its midfield for the remainder of the Qatari season.
