Wales registered a landmark moment at the Women’s Euro 2025 on Wednesday when veteran midfielder Jess Fishlock struck in the 14th minute to level the score against hosts France, delivering the country’s first goal at any major women’s international tournament. Fishlock’s finish, set up by Angharad James Holland, also made the 38-year-old the oldest player to score in the history of the Women’s European Championship, surpassing the previous record held by Italy’s Patrizia Panico (35 years). France restored their advantage before halftime, with Kadidiatou Diani converting a penalty after Maëlle Mateo had opened the scoring early in the match. The sides went into the break with France leading 2–1 as they vie for early control of Group A.
