The Netherlands opened their UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 campaign with a 3–0 victory over tournament debutants Wales in Lucerne on Saturday. Vivianne Miedema broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time, curling home her 100th international goal to become the first Dutch player—male or female—to reach the century mark. Victoria Pelova doubled the lead two minutes after the restart and Esmee Brugts completed the scoring shortly before the hour, capping a dominant ten-minute spell from the 2017 champions. The match drew 14,147 spectators, including an estimated 3,800 travelling Welsh fans, to the Allmend Stadion. While Wales showed resilience early on, the side coached by Rhian Wilkinson struggled to contain the Dutch once Miedema struck and lost forward Ceri Holland to injury late in the game. The result leaves the Netherlands top of Group D ahead of their 9 July meeting with reigning champions England in Zurich, while Wales face France next as they continue their first major-tournament adventure.
