Gondomar SC, the fourth-division Portuguese club where Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva began their careers, has unveiled a new yellow kit emblazoned with portraits of the two players. The jersey, presented on 4 August, comes a month after the brothers were killed in a car crash in Spain on 3 July. Liverpool FC, who won last season’s Premier League, is marking the campaign with a “Forever 20” crest on its shirts and has permanently retired Jota’s No. 20 across all teams at Anfield. The club held its first ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ at Anfield since the tragedy during a home match on Monday, with captain Virgil van Dijk pledging to “honour and carry on his legacy”. The tributes extend to the international stage. Midfielder Rúben Neves said Portugal’s squad is using the memory of Jota—who scored 14 goals in 49 appearances for the national team—as added motivation to win the 2026 World Cup, beginning with qualifiers against Armenia in September.
