Newcastle United has turned down a £120 million offer from Liverpool for centre-forward Alexander Isak, according to several reports on 1 August. The formal proposal, lodged just weeks before the Premier League season starts, would have made the 25-year-old Sweden international one of the most expensive signings in English football. Isak, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, is keen to leave St James’ Park and has already agreed personal terms with Liverpool, the reports said. He has been training alone at his former club Real Sociedad while Eddie Howe’s squad tours South Korea, officially because of a minor thigh injury. Newcastle are understood to value the striker at about £150 million—roughly €170 million—and remain reluctant to sell unless that figure is met. Liverpool, which paid a club-record £85 million for Darwin Núñez in 2022, is expected to decide in the coming days whether to return with an improved bid that could break the Premier League transfer record.
