Santos Laguna opened its Apertura 2025 campaign with a convincing 3–0 home victory over Pumas at Estadio TSM Corona in Torreón on Sunday night, capitalising on defensive mistakes by the visitors and an error-strewn debut from 17-year-old goalkeeper Rodrigo Parra. Parra, promoted from Pumas’ youth ranks and handed a surprise start by coach Efraín Juárez, was beaten after just 14 minutes and was directly involved in the second goal early in the second half when a mis-controlled clearance allowed Argentine forward Ramiro Sordo to score. The teenager became the youngest goalkeeper to start a league match for the Mexico City club. Santos added a third late on to secure the three points in the opening round of Liga MX’s new season, while Pumas left Torreón still searching for their first goal and victory. Juárez said he would continue to back young talent, but acknowledged that experience in goal is “often decisive” at the top level.
