Major League Soccer postponed Saturday’s match between Austin FC and Los Angeles Football Club after heavy storms triggered severe flooding across Central Texas. The fixture at Austin’s Q2 Stadium will be rescheduled, and tickets will be honored on the new date, the league said after consulting local authorities. The National Weather Service had placed the region under a flood watch, warning of 1–3 inches of rain with isolated pockets of five inches. Local officials said the floods have killed at least 59 people, including 21 children, and rescue teams continue to search for missing residents. Travis County has declared a disaster emergency, and Austin FC offered condolences to affected families while thanking first responders. The same weather system has disrupted other sporting events. Tuesday’s New York Mets–Baltimore Orioles game and Wednesday’s Orioles contest were delayed or postponed because of rain, while the Toronto Blue Jays–Chicago White Sox matchup started 12 minutes late. In Pennsylvania, persistent lightning forced U.S. Soccer to move the Philadelphia Union–New York Red Bulls Open Cup quarter-final to Aug. 13.
