Automattic has relaunched its Beeper all-in-one messaging application, giving users the option to run the service entirely on their own devices instead of routing traffic through the company’s cloud servers. Chief Executive Officer Kishan Bagaria said the on-device mode preserves end-to-end encryption by allowing the app to connect directly to WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and more than a dozen other chat networks, with iMessage support limited to Mac computers. The overhaul introduces a paid tier, Beeper Plus, priced at $9.99 a month. Subscribers can link up to 10 messaging services and access features such as scheduled sends, chat reminders, incognito message reading and AI-generated voice-note transcriptions. A higher-end Beeper Plus Plus plan at $49.99 a month offers unlimited accounts and targets business and social-media managers. Beeper said its cloud option will remain for now but will be phased out once the on-device architecture proves reliable. The app, which counts millions of registered users, now operates with a 30-person team that combines staff from Texts.com, acquired alongside Beeper after Automattic paid about $125 million for the company in 2024.
