Microsoft has begun rolling out a test build of its Copilot app for Windows 11 that introduces AI-powered “semantic” file search and a redesigned home experience. Labeled version 1.25082.132.0, the update is currently available to Windows Insiders on Copilot+ PCs through the Microsoft Store. The new search function lets users locate documents or images with conversational prompts—such as “find the file with the chicken tostada recipe” or “find pictures of my dog on the beach”—rather than relying on exact file names or locations. Supported formats include PNG, JPEG, PDF, DOCX and XLSX, among others. Microsoft says Copilot uses the operating system’s standard Recent folder and does not scan the entire drive unless a user explicitly uploads a file for analysis. Copilot’s revamped home page now surfaces recently used files, apps and conversations. Selecting an application in the “get guided help” pane launches a Vision session that scans the on-screen content and walks the user through tasks step by step. The features are confined to Copilot+ hardware equipped with neural-processing units, and Microsoft has not provided a timeline for general release beyond the Insider programme.
