PC hardware publication Tom’s Hardware has introduced a paid subscription service, Tom’s Hardware Premium Beta, marking the outlet’s first move toward a blended free-and-paid model after nearly three decades of ad-supported journalism. Subscribers gain access to deeper analysis, exclusive features and interviews, uncut Q&A sessions, and Uptime—a members-only news feed. The package also debuts Bench, a data-driven benchmarking platform that allows side-by-side comparisons of CPUs, GPUs and laptops using the site’s extensive test database. The service launches at an introductory price of $69 for a one-year membership, rising to $99 after the promotional period. Interim Editor-in-Chief Paul Alcorn said the subscription revenue will fund more intensive testing and broaden the publication’s coverage of the semiconductor industry while keeping existing free content outside the paywall.
