Windsurf, an AI integrated development environment (IDE), has introduced a revamped pricing model aimed at simplifying costs and improving user experience. The new structure eliminates the previous 'flow action credits' system, which charged users per tool call, replacing it with a single charge per prompt regardless of the number of steps executed. The updated pricing offers a $15 monthly plan that includes 500 prompt calls, with additional calls available at $10 per 250 calls. A teams plan is also available for $30 per month, featuring auto-refill capabilities. This represents a reduction from the former $60 Pro Ultimate plan, which users can now approximate with a combined $15 plus $10 payment under the new scheme. Windsurf is also extending free access to OpenAI's GPT-4.1 and o4-mini models for an additional week, until April 28, 2025. The changes have been positively received for their clarity and cost-effectiveness, positioning Windsurf competitively against other AI coding tools such as Cursor and Copilot.
