Veteran full-back Willie le Roux will become only the eighth Springbok centurion when South Africa host Italy in the second Test at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, 12 July. The 34-year-old, who debuted against the Azzurri in 2013, reaches his 100th cap as the Springboks look to build on last week’s 42–24 victory in Pretoria. Head coach Rassie Erasmus has overhauled his lineup, retaining just four starters and making 11 changes to the run-on side. Lock Salmaan Moerat takes over the captaincy from the rested Siya Kolisi, while winger Makazole Mapimpi, hooker Malcolm Marx and No. 8 Jasper Wiese headline the returning players. Erasmus has named three potential debutants on a 5-3 split bench: tight-head prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye, utility forward Cobus Wiese—set to join brother Jasper on the field—and utility back Ethan Hooker. The reshuffled backline partners Manie Libbok with scrum-half Grant Williams and pairs Andre Esterhuizen with Canan Moodie in midfield, with Edwill van der Merwe joining Le Roux and Mapimpi in the back three. Erasmus said the rotations are part of a long-term plan toward the 2027 Rugby World Cup and a reward for form within a “large and very talented” squad. South Africa will aim to secure the two-match series and mark Le Roux’s milestone with a win.
