Over 2,100 senior-ranking employees at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) are set to leave the agency as part of a workforce reduction initiative directed by the Trump administration. According to documents obtained by Politico, approximately 2,145 senior staff members, including around 300 at the Kennedy Space Center and hundreds at the Marshall Space Flight Center, will depart through early retirement, buyouts, and deferred resignations. Among those leaving, 1,818 serve in mission-critical areas such as science and human spaceflight. This reduction aligns with proposed budget cuts aimed at downsizing the federal workforce. The departures raise concerns about potential impacts on NASA's key programs, including Artemis moon missions and Mars exploration efforts.
