Sevilla FC on 8 July officially presented Argentine manager Matías Almeyda as its new head coach, confirming an appointment that had been signalled in recent days. The 50-year-old arrives in LaLiga after stints with River Plate, Banfield, Chivas de Guadalajara, San Jose Earthquakes and AEK Athens, replacing outgoing manager Quique Sánchez Flores. During his introductory press conference at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium, Almeyda reflected on his tenure with Mexico’s Chivas, where the club’s policy of fielding only domestic players created what he called a "constant disadvantage" against rivals. "We reached seven finals and won five titles in two and a half years," he said, describing the period as "a moment of great happiness" and expressing enduring affection for the Guadalajara side and its supporters. Sevilla did not disclose contract terms, but club president José Castro cited Almeyda’s "ability to thrive under pressure" as a key factor in the hire. The coach takes charge immediately as the Andalusian club prepares its pre-season schedule and looks to rebound from a 14th-place finish in the 2024-25 LaLiga campaign.
