Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham was helped off the floor with a right-knee injury midway through the second quarter of the club’s 99–93 overtime victory against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. She was ruled out for the remainder of the game. The injury occurred when Sun guard Bria Hartley lost her footing on a drive and collided with Cunningham’s leg. Head coach Stephanie White said Cunningham will undergo an MRI on Monday, adding that the team will provide a timetable once imaging is complete. The setback deepens the Fever’s back-court crisis. Star rookie Caitlin Clark missed her 13th consecutive game with a groin strain, while guards Aari McDonald (foot) and Sydney Colson (knee) are out for the season. Despite the depleted roster, the Fever improved to 19-17 and remain seventh in the eight-team playoff field. Cunningham, 28, had logged 10 scoreless minutes before the collision. She entered the contest averaging 8.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and a team-best 44.3% from three-point range.
Veronica Burton is holding her midsection, she briefly walked to the bench but is now headed to the locker room.
Veronica Burton is down on the floor, she never ran back on defense. Looks to be in a lot of pain.
