Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won the women’s 100 metres at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on Saturday, clocking 10.75 seconds despite a –1.5 m/s headwind. The 2024 Olympic bronze medallist edged out Olympic champion Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, who finished two-hundredths of a second behind in 10.77. The result handed Alfred her first loss of the season and underscored Jefferson-Wooden’s growing form on the Diamond League circuit. Fellow American Sha’Carri Richardson, the reigning world champion, placed ninth in 11.19 seconds, while 37-year-old Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith registered a season-best performance further down the field.
