U.S. shot-putter Chase Jackson continued her mid-season surge at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, winning with a throw of 20.94 metres. The mark broke the meet record and came within one centimetre of the 20.95 metre American record and world lead she set last week. Canada’s Sarah Mitton finished second, roughly half a metre back. Olympic and world hammer-throw champion Camryn Rogers delivered the day’s other record performance, sending the hammer 78.88 metres. The throw improved her own Canadian record and eclipsed the Diamond League record, underscoring the 26-year-old’s dominance in the event. In the long jump, U.S. athlete Tara Davis-Woodhall soared 7.07 metres on her final attempt to clinch victory and match the season’s world-leading distance established by Germany’s Malaika Mihambo earlier this year. The trio of performances headlined a strong slate of women’s field events at the latest Diamond League stop, which doubles as the Nike-backed Prefontaine Classic.
