Sami Whitcomb erupted for a career-best 36 points, including seven three-pointers, as the Phoenix Mercury routed the Dallas Wings 102-72 in Phoenix on Monday night. The 36-year-old guard scored 19 of her points in the opening quarter and surpassed the 2,000-point mark for her WNBA career. Whitcomb’s outburst powered the Mercury to a 52-39 halftime lead and erased her previous scoring high of 30 set in 2021. She finished 12-of-19 from the field and added six rebounds and two steals. Forward Alyssa Thomas complemented Whitcomb with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists for her 12th career triple-double, helping Phoenix improve to 13-6. Dallas, which trailed by 30 entering the fourth quarter, fell to 7-11.
