Model Context Protocol Powers AI Agents with Zapier MCP Server, 7,000+ Apps, BNB Chain Web3, and Open-Source Support
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is emerging as a new open standard that enables AI agents to natively call external tools and APIs, facilitating their evolution from simple chatbots to autonomous workers. MCP servers and client-side tooling have been introduced by various developers and companies, including AiTopTools, Zapier, CopilotKit, and Orbit, allowing seamless integration of AI agents with collaborative applications and over 7,000 apps such as Gmail, Sheets, and Notion. MCP supports real-time data sharing, multi-tenant authentication, granular permissions, and dynamic tool discovery, with some implementations being fully open-source. The protocol is also gaining traction in Web3, with BNB Chain adopting MCP to connect AI agents to decentralized finance tools like DEXs, RPCs, and smart contracts, enabling secure, transparent, and real-time blockchain interactions without custom code. Additionally, platforms like Epsilla and EliteAgents_AI are leveraging MCP for enhanced AI agent capabilities and marketplace functionality, respectively. MCP is viewed as an architectural shift that redefines how AI agents interact with tools, unlocking new consumer experiences, monetization opportunities for developers, and decentralized hosting infrastructure for validators. The protocol is supported by AI agents such as Anthropic's Claude Desktop and CAMEL agents, highlighting its growing role in the future of work and autonomous AI applications.
