American Eagle Outfitters Inc. unveiled a limited-edition “AE x Tru Kolors” collection created with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, less than a day after the NFL star announced his engagement to singer Taylor Swift. The 90-plus-piece line, developed through Kelce’s sportswear and lifestyle brand Tru Kolors, ranges from vintage-inspired tees and varsity jackets to cashmere sets and utility cargos, with prices between roughly $15 and $180. The first drop debuted Wednesday, with a second release scheduled for Sept. 24. The collaboration, in the works for more than a year, installs Kelce as creative director and will be promoted alongside athletes including quarterback Drew Allar, gymnast Suni Lee and basketball player Azzi Fudd. American Eagle said the initiative underscores its focus on optimism, self-expression and inclusive sizing, and follows the retailer’s widely discussed marketing push featuring actress Sydney Sweeney earlier this summer. Investors welcomed the move. American Eagle shares rose as much as 6.1% in New York trading on Wednesday, after advancing about 5% in pre-market activity, trimming the stock’s 27% year-to-date decline. The announcement lands a week before the Pittsburgh-based company is due to report second-quarter earnings, giving management a well-timed boost as it seeks to revive sales.
