Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) experienced substantial outflows in early August 2025, with a notable $812 million net withdrawal on August 1, marking the second-largest daily outflow since their inception. Major contributors to these outflows included Fidelity, which accounted for approximately $331 million, Grayscale with around $214 million, and ARK with $117 million. This surge in outflows ended a seven-week streak of inflows for Bitcoin ETFs, with weekly outflows totaling $643 million from July 28 to August 1. The trend continued with additional outflows reported, including $404 million from Bitcoin-focused crypto funds in the U.S. during the week ending August 4. Despite this, Bitcoin's price remained resilient, hovering around $115,000 after dipping to $112,000 amid macroeconomic volatility. In contrast, Ethereum ETFs maintained a relatively stronger position, although they ended a 20-day inflow streak with a $152 million net outflow on August 1. Nonetheless, Ethereum ETFs recorded $5.4 billion in inflows during July 2025, with inflows in that month surpassing the total inflows of the entire previous year. Ethereum ETFs continued to see gains into early August, with a reported $154 million inflow during the week ending August 1 and a 15-week streak of inflows overall. Key players in the ETF market included BlackRock, Fidelity, Grayscale, ARK, Bitwise, VanEck, WisdomTree, and Franklin, with varying daily flows reported. Notably, BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF product $IBIT ranked as the second-best ETF in monthly flows as of early August. Some ETFs, such as VanEck and WisdomTree, reported zero net flows during this period. Overall, the data reflect a period of volatility and shifting investor sentiment in the cryptocurrency ETF market, with Bitcoin ETFs facing significant withdrawals while Ethereum ETFs showed more sustained investor interest.
