Between August 18 and August 22, 2025, US spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced net outflows totaling approximately $1.17 billion, with BlackRock’s IBIT ETF accounting for $615 million of the outflows. Ethereum spot ETFs also recorded net outflows of around $238 million during the same period, ending a 14-week streak of inflows. However, on August 22, Ethereum spot ETFs reversed this trend with $341 million in net inflows across nine ETFs, while Bitcoin spot ETFs continued to see outflows of $23.15 million, marking their sixth consecutive day of outflows. By August 25, both Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs saw strong inflows, with Bitcoin ETFs adding $219 million and Ethereum ETFs $444 million, signaling renewed institutional demand. This momentum continued on August 26, when Ethereum spot ETFs recorded $455 million in net inflows, marking four consecutive days of inflows, and Bitcoin spot ETFs added $88.2 million, with BlackRock’s IBIT ETF leading Bitcoin inflows at $45.34 million. Despite these daily gains, Bitcoin ETFs have experienced overall outflows of $1.2 billion in August, indicating a broader institutional exit from Bitcoin exposure. The inflows into Ethereum ETFs have been notably robust, with BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum ETF seeing inflows of 69,889 ETH ($314.5 million) on August 26, contributing to a total holding of over 3.6 million ETH. The combined surge in ETF inflows for both cryptocurrencies reflects growing institutional interest in crypto ETFs as preferred investment vehicles, with Ethereum currently outperforming Bitcoin in terms of inflows and price performance.
