The World Bank Group said Syria’s economy is projected to expand by a modest 1 percent in 2025 after shrinking 1.5 percent this year, marking what would be the country’s first annual growth since the final phase of its political transition. In its new macro-fiscal assessment, the lender warned that Syria faces an acute liquidity crunch driven by a shortage of physical banknotes and broader disruptions in domestic currency circulation. The cash scarcity is constraining trade, investment and the delivery of humanitarian aid, the report said. While the Bank noted that recent regional engagement and a partial easing of sanctions could create room for recovery, it cautioned that the outlook remains highly uncertain because of continued security risks, limited access to international banking and frozen foreign assets.
