Syria’s General Authority for Land and Sea Ports signed an $800 million contract with Dubai-based DP World to upgrade and expand the country’s maritime infrastructure, according to the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). The agreement converts a prior memorandum of understanding into a binding deal covering ports and related logistical services, including work at Tartus, one of Syria’s key Mediterranean gateways. The signing ceremony on 13 July was presided over by President Ahmed al-Sharaa. Observers noted that the contract became possible after the removal of U.S. sanctions that had previously restricted large-scale foreign investment in Syrian transport assets.
