Shy Yosofov, owner of New York–based wholesaler Jacob's Tomato Corp, said the United States could face a severe shortage of tomatoes if President Donald Trump implements a proposed 17% tariff on fresh tomato imports from Mexico. Mexico supplies the bulk of tomatoes consumed in the U.S., particularly during the winter and early spring. Yosofov warned that the higher duty would discourage imports, tighten supplies, and push up prices for supermarkets, restaurants and consumers nationwide.
