Healthcare organizations are rethinking their cybersecurity staffing as threats from ransomware rise. Experts estimate that ransomware attacks will occur every 11 seconds this year, with medical providers increasingly being targeted. A recent ransomware attack on Ascension, one of the largest health systems in the U.S., exemplifies the vulnerability of organizations to such cyber threats. A case-control study analyzed disruptive ransomware attacks against hospitals in California from 2014 to 2020, focusing on emergency department and inpatient admissions in attacked and nearby hospitals.
