Substrate, a company focused on AI technology, has successfully closed an $8 million seed funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. The funding will be used to develop an inference API optimized for multi-step AI workloads. Substrate aims to simplify AI application development by providing a solution that requires no tooling or infrastructure, enabling the coordination of multiple AI models with regular programming. The company was co-founded by Ben and Rob Cheung, who previously worked at Stripe. Substrate, which has been making large, multi-step AI workloads fast and easy since 2023, officially launched its product in June 2024.
