Andre Agassi made his first appearance in the BBC commentary booth at Wimbledon on 11 July, joining Andrew Castle and Tim Henman for the men’s quarter-final between Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz. The eight-time Grand Slam champion drew immediate praise for his detailed breakdown of Alcaraz’s tactics and for recalling key points from the Spaniard’s five-set comeback victory in the Roland Garros final. The broadcast briefly turned awkward when Castle, referring to celebrities in the Royal Box, asked Agassi whether he recognised actor Rami Malek. Agassi brushed off the question with, “Don’t ask me stuff like that, I don’t know,” before steering the conversation back to tennis. Viewers and pundits nonetheless welcomed his insight, prompting calls for the BBC to retain him for the remainder of the tournament.
Absolutely love @AndreAgassi on @TennisEurosport His ability to articulate the inner game of tennis is absolutely phenomenal.
