Besiktas dismissed head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with immediate effect on Thursday, hours after the Turkish club was knocked out of the UEFA Europa Conference League play-offs by Lausanne. The board reached the decision at an evening meeting following the 1–0 loss in Istanbul, which sealed a 2–1 aggregate defeat. Solskjaer, 52, had signed an 18-month contract in January in his first job since leaving Manchester United in 2021. He guided Besiktas to fourth place in the Super Lig last season, securing a berth in Europe, but departs just one match into the 2025-26 domestic campaign. Chairman Serdal Adalh thanked the Norwegian for his service in a brief statement. Besiktas have not yet named a successor; the team returns to league action against Alanyaspor on Sunday.
