Yiğit Bulut, chief adviser to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and a member of the presidential Economic Policies Board, died on 11 July after receiving treatment for cancer. Bulut, 53, was a prominent journalist-turned-policy adviser who joined Erdoğan’s team in 2013 and was elevated to the presidency in 2014. A vocal advocate of Erdoğan’s unorthodox low-interest-rate stance, Bulut defended policies that coincided with consumer-price inflation climbing above 80 percent in 2022. The president expressed “deep sorrow” in a condolence message, offering prayers to Bulut’s family and colleagues.
