Türkiye’s annual consumer price inflation eased to 35.05 percent in June from 35.41 percent in May, its lowest level in more than three years, official data from the Turkish Statistical Institute showed. The monthly rise slowed to 1.37 percent, marking a second consecutive downside surprise versus market expectations of 1.50 percent. The softening was broad-based, led by slower increases in food and transportation prices. The release set the six-month inflation figure at 16.67 percent, automatically determining mid-year pay adjustments. Salaries for public servants and civil-service retirees rise 15.57 percent, while SSK and Bağ-Kur pensioners receive a 16.67 percent increase. The same data fix the July cap on residential and commercial rent hikes at 43.23 percent. Financial markets welcomed the lower-than-forecast print. The benchmark BIST 100 index added 0.39 percent to 10,228 points, and lira exchange rates were broadly stable. Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said easing commodity costs, improving inflation expectations and moderating domestic demand should help inflation fall further in the second half, bolstering speculation that the central bank may resume interest-rate cuts after its July meeting.
