David Corenswet, who will debut as Clark Kent in James Gunn’s "Superman" on 11 July, said he exchanged letters with two previous Men of Steel—Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin—before taking on the role. In separate notes, both actors encouraged him to make the character his own but deliberately withheld advice, which Corenswet described as “a very Superman thing.” Cavill portrayed the hero across five DC Extended Universe films from 2013 to 2022, while Hoechlin headlined four seasons of the CW series "Superman & Lois" that concluded last year. Corenswet added that their supportive messages, centered on enjoying the experience, reinforced his and Gunn’s vision of a more emotionally open version of the character for the studio’s rebooted DC Universe.

David Corenswet says he’s been exchanging letters with fellow Superman actors Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin. "Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words, 'I'm not gonna try to give you any tips.'" (https://t.co/i3T6EP3qUH) https://t.co/7WezQYWcpC
David Corenswet got the same piece of advice from two previous Superman actors, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin: 'We had a lovely exchange and I'm excited to meet them one day.' https://t.co/HscV8BFzW5
