Max Holloway said he is determined to avoid becoming "a man who fought two different trilogies and went 0-3" as he prepares to face Dustin Poirier for a third time at UFC 318 on 19 July. Holloway, the reigning BMF title-holder, has lost both previous meetings with Poirier but insists he will not “roll over” in New Orleans. The bout is expected to be Poirier’s final appearance before retirement, adding pressure to the 30-9 lightweight as he competes in his hometown’s Smoothie King Center. Poirier handed Holloway his first professional defeat in 2012 and beat him again in 2019 for the interim lightweight belt. Fellow lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett believes the occasion could weigh on Poirier, predicting a motivated Holloway will even the series despite the hostile setting. UFC 318 streams on ESPN+ pay-per-view in the United States.
