Ukraine is prepared to freeze the war with Russia along the existing front line and to regard the territories now held by Moscow as lost in practice but still Ukrainian in law, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak told Italy’s La Repubblica, according to multiple regional media reports on 21 August. Podolyak said Kyiv would seek to reclaim the areas through diplomatic means in the future, stressing that the proposal is one of several scenarios under consideration and does not imply surrendering sovereignty over any land.
